Benefits of Whey Proteins

Whey protein is an excellent protein choice for individuals of all ages who value the role of a healthy diet in helping to maintain and improve their health. Whey protein isolate, the purest form available, is unsurpassed as a source of the essential amino acids required in the daily diet. Essential amino acids are the building blocks for healthy muscles, skin, nails and other body tissue. To learn more about whey protein and how it contributes to good health please select your specific area of interest.

Physical Performance
Optimum Nutrition Whey protein has long been considered the “Gold Standard” of protein for serious athletes who work hard to develop and sustain a lean, strong and well-defined physique. Research studies support this belief. Athletes need more protein in their diet, often as much as twice the recommended daily allowance. The protein they choose makes a difference and here are several reasons why whey protein is a preferred choice for athletes of all types.

* Whey protein is a naturally complete protein, meaning that it contains all of the essential amino acids required in the daily diet. It has the ideal combination of amino acids to help improve body composition and enhance athletic performance.
* Whey protein is a rich source of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), containing the highest known levels of any natural food source. BCAAs are important for athletes since unlike the other essential amino acids, they are metabolized directly into muscle tissue and are the first ones used during periods of exercise and resistance training. Whey protein provides the body with BCAAs to replenish depleted levels and start repairing and rebuilding lean muscle tissue.
* Whey protein is an excellent source of the essential amino acid, leucine. Leucine is important for athletes as it plays a key role in promoting muscle protein synthesis and muscle growth. Research has shown that individuals who exercise benefit from diets high in leucine and have more lean muscle tissue and less body fat compared to individuals whose diet contains lower levels of leucine. Whey protein isolate has approximately 50% more leucine than soy protein isolate.
* Whey protein is a soluble, easy to digest protein and is efficiently absorbed into the body. It is often referred to as a “fast” protein for its ability to quickly provide nourishment to muscles.
* Whey protein helps athletes maintain a healthy immune system by increasing the levels of glutathione in the body. Glutathione is an anti-oxidant required for a healthy immune system and exercise and resistance training may reduce glutathione levels. Whey protein helps keep athletes healthy and strong to perform their best.

Weight Management
weight loss Studies show that achieving and maintaining a healthy weight can add years to your life and help prevent weight related complications, including diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Diet plays a key role in any weight management program and adding whey protein often helps make a positive difference. Here are some of the reasons why.

* The body requires more energy to digest protein than other foods (thermic effect) and as a result you burn more calories after a protein meal.
* Whey protein isolate is pure protein with little to no fat or carbohydrates. It is a perfect complement to any low carbohydrate or low glycemic index diet plan.
* Recent studies by Dr. Donald Layman, a professor at the University of Illinois, have highlighted the role of the essential amino acid leucine in improving body composition. High quality whey protein is rich in leucine to help preserve lean muscle tissue while promoting fat loss. Whey protein contains more leucine than milk protein, egg protein and soy protein.
* Protein helps to stabilize blood glucose levels by slowing the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream. This in turn reduces hunger by lowering insulin levels and making it easier for the body to burn fat.
* Whey protein contains bioactive components that help stimulate the release of two appetite-suppressing hormones: cholecystokinin (CCK) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). In support of this, a new study found that whey protein had a greater impact on satiety than casein, the other protein in milk. Adding whey protein to a mid-day snack or beverage provides healthy energy and may help control food intake at the next meal.

Cardiovascular Health
Heart Health In 2001 heart disease was the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. With the average life expectancy rising each year, it becomes increasingly important to adopt a nutritious diet and regular exercise program to help maintain a healthy cardiovascular system. Whey protein should be part of that nutritious diet.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is one of the leading causes of heart disease and stroke. Exciting new research has shown that whey protein may help in the battle against hypertension. Both human clinical and animal studies found that a hydrolyzed whey protein isolate assisted in reducing the blood pressure of borderline hypertensive individuals.

Elevated cholesterol is another factor associated with heart disease and whey protein has been shown to reduce cholesterol in a number of animal and clinical studies. Certain bioactive components in whey protein may be responsible for the cholesterol reduction however additional research is needed in this area.

Cancer
Cancer patients undergoing radiation or chemotherapy often have difficulty in meeting their daily nutritional requirements due to nausea and lack of appetite. This may lead to weight loss, muscle loss and protein calorie malnutrition. Whey protein is an excellent protein choice for cancer patients as it is very easy to digest and very gentle to the system. Whey protein may be added to a wide variety of foods and beverages to increase the protein content without affecting taste.

As with serious athletes, cancer patients often have reduced glutathione levels and a weakened immune system. Numerous studies have shown that whey protein, rich in the amino acid cysteine, provides an extra boost to the immune system by raising glutathione levels. This may help reduce the risk of infection and improve the responsiveness of the immune system. In support of this, at the 2003 Annual Meeting of the American Cancer Society, research was presented showing that women with the highest levels of plasma cysteine had a 56% reduction in the risk of breast cancer compared to individuals with the lowest levels of plasma cysteine.

Whey protein has been shown through animal and in vitro studies to inhibit the growth of several types of cancer tumors. Dr. Thomas Badger, head of the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center in Little Rock, found that feeding rats whey protein resulted in their developing 50% fewer tumors than rats fed casein. The rats fed whey protein also developed fewer tumors than rats fed soy protein and the tumors took longer to develop.

Diabetes
Smoothies Type 2 diabetes is a growing health problem, largely in part to the continued rise in obesity. It is not unique to adults and is becoming more of a concern for children and teenagers. The good news is that healthy nutrition practices have been shown to play a role in helping to manage, and possibly prevent, the onset of type-2 diabetes. Whey protein, a high quality, high biological value protein, is a good choice for diabetics who need to carefully manage food intake. Whey protein provides more value than equal amounts of lower quality proteins that are often higher in fat and cholesterol. In addition, whey protein helps control blood glucose levels and has been shown to be beneficial for weight management, both of which are often a concern for type-2 diabetics.

Infant Nutrition
Baby Formulas Whey protein contains many of the same components found in human breast milk and for this reason, is a key ingredient in a wide variety of infant formulas, including those for premature infants. Certain types of whey protein based infant formulas have also been shown to help reduce crying in colicky infants. While breast-feeding is preferred, infant formulas containing whey protein are the next best thing when breast-feeding is not an option. In addition, whey protein is an excellent protein choice for the expectant mother who needs increased amounts of protein. Pregnancy can increase the body’s protein needs by up to 33%. Before making any changes to their diet, it is recommended that expectant mothers consult with a physician to determine their unique protein needs.

Healthy Aging
Healthy Aging The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that by the year 2020 approximately one out of every six Americans will be in the in the 65 and older age group. As we age, muscle loss and its negative health implications is a growing concern, both in terms of volume and medical costs. Good nutrition and adequate amounts of high quality whey protein may help maintain strong muscles during aging, especially when combined with an exercise and resistance training program. A recent study in Europe compared whey protein to casein, the primary protein in milk. They found that older men who consumed whey protein showed greater protein synthesis, or growth, which helped limit muscle loss over time.

Another benefit of whey protein for seniors is the ability to help prevent bone loss. A recent study conducted at Boston University showed that elderly individuals who consumed low levels of protein had a significant loss of bone density four years after the start of the study, especially in the hip and spine areas. A nutritious diet including whey protein may help keep bones and muscles healthy and strong.

Wound Healing
When the body is working to heal wounds and surgical incisions it requires increased amounts of protein. Protein and its amino acids are the building blocks that initiate the growth of new skin during the healing process. Inadequate amounts of protein or diets high in poor quality proteins, such as gelatin, may delay the healing process. Whey protein is a very high quality protein and is often the preferred choice for high protein products recommended by physicians following surgery or burn therapy.

Whey protein also contains components with protective anti-microbial properties, such as lactoferrin. In recent years companies have introduced mouthwashes and oral care products containing these protective whey protein components. The companies are taking advantage of the unique features of whey protein to create new products for diabetics and others sensitive to oral irritations. This area is expected to evolve in the future.

CellMass is Awesome! - October 01, 2005
Reviewer: BenchPress from South Side Chicago

CellMass is awesome, and its even better when combined with NO-XPLODE. These are the best there is hands down. My family and friends have always considered me to be the “skinny,” when I know they meant scrawny, one of the family. I’ve been on this combo for about 2 months now and I have seen an unbelievable amount of lean mass gains. I am 5’8’’ and I have jumped in weight from 142 to 153. This difference was in muscle mass. Just 4 weeks into this I saw a difference and now I don’t want to stop.

By far, one of the best supplements I have taken, I was sketchy on the price, but after a few weeks, I’ve never been lifting as much as I have.

This stuff really does work. Some people don’t realize that you have to eat the right stuff at the right time in conjunction with this stuff (and no-xplode). You can’t expect for something to work if all your doing is taking cellmass and not being concerned about your diet.

CellMass is A+ - March 23, 2006

CellMass has to be the very best creatine formula I have ever used. After the first few days your muscles become noticable harder and its also makes my sets come easier. Its made me raise the weight on the bar faster then I had ever before.

This stuff works - April 14, 2006
Reviewer: Pesti DiPingas from Cojon, FL

There are quite a few people out there that talk bad about this product but I can tell you from first hand experience that this is the best creatine I have ever tried. I just got back to working out from a 3 year break and in less than 6 weeks of taking this product I’m lifting more now that I ever did in the past. You will start to notice results about 1 week after taking it and since I started taking it I have gone up a minimum of 5 pounds on ever exercise weekly. I’ve also put on about 8 pounds of muscle in one month.

Been using CellMass and N.O. Explode for about 4 weeks now, and im seeing some major results, 15 lb’s gained and a trimming of my fatty areas, I think its a great product!

I am 45 and just got Bowflex Revolution last month. After consultation I stocked up on Cellmass and NO-Explode plus other things. I’m on it only for 6 days and I can see the difference. At work people noticed definition in my upper arms. I asked for the best and I am happy w/it. I’m new to this bodybuilding, just wanted to see how much muscle I can gain in my age. Right now I’m starting Keto diet to see if it helps too. At night I take Casseine, I also use Meditropin among ton of other supplements and proper diet. Whatever I do and take seems to work for me.

I love this product!! - August 23, 2006
Reviewer: Dave L. from Kalamazoo, MI

This stuff is awesome. I had been out of weight lifting for a couple years and recently starting my routine again. The first week and part of the second I didn’t use anything and I was so sore I couldn’t move. I immediately noticed my muscle fatigue dissipating within an hour after working out and the next day NO SORENESS. I could feel the muscle groups i worked but I was not sore. Its a miracle supplement!!

Awesome - August 27, 2006
Reviewer: panther5000 from Miami

I am 37 years old and was a former bodybuilder and heavy roid head back in the day when I was early 20’s. I just finished my first bottle of cellmass (taking only 1 scoop post workout) and have gained 8 lbs of quality muscle with no bloating or fat. My bench has skyrocketed to 315 from 275 and every other life has increased. I swear this is true, guys in the gym have been asking me if I am on a cycle. the pumps I am getting are incredible. It’s like being back on the roids just not as intense.

I have been using Cellmass for two months now and I have noticed a big increase in my muscle mass. I have gained approximately 15lbs of muscle mass. I am not sore after a heavy workout. I am very happy with the results I am receiving from this product. It tastes great also.

I Dunno What They’re Thinkin - February 06, 2007
Reviewer: Big T from Tacoma

I dont know what the people above me are talkinga about. But cellmass is used as a post work out supplement, meaning right after your work out you take it for faster recovery, faster growth, and increased hardness. Your also supposed to take it before you go to bed. Ive never had diahera or any types of stomach pain while using this product. Me and all my buds that use N.O. Explode pre work out and Cellmass post and before bed have all had amazing gains in muscle hardness, size, and crazy increase in reps. Ive also noticed my muscles arent sore for as long, like they’re sore until about 2 hours after i take my cell mass, and all soreness is gone by the next morning. Believe me boys, this shit works.

Fantastic - February 27, 2006
Reviewer: JB from Somerset, KY

This is an amazing recovery drink, I am less sore after workouts becasue of this stuff… And the strength gains are awsome when stacked with either n.o. xplode or nitrix….

With NO-XPLODE and Nitrix - June 11, 2005
Reviewer: Mike Neri from Little Italy

This product makes me happy. It lasts for a few workouts, its not bad. Taken alone this stuff wont do much. I have been stacking it with NO-XPLODE and Nitrix to get even better results faster. In the gym I see a difference of 5lbs weights increasing with each passing week. I am letting you know that if you want great, huge pumps then you need to get CellMass and the other sets I mentioned before to get significant and better results in the long run. Some people don’t have results when taking this supplement, but that could just be their body type and genetics. For those who it does work, me, you can definitely see the difference fast.

Good Creatine - June 18, 2006
Reviewer: Jay P Barb from Detroit

I hate when people complain about the price, cause muscle mass is priceless. Besides, 40 scoops for only $45 isn’t that much at all. I have been bodybuilding for a long time, and have countless hours of research and self-testing. I’ve tried just about every form and brand of creatine, and this ranks up there. It tastes great (arctic berry frost) and isn’t that expensive. My strength went up in the first week of taking it (twice a day). Anyone who says it doesn’t work doesn’t know what creatine products are suppose to do. It is not for “pumps” like arginine akg products are. Cell mass does it’s job. And to quote the bottle, “the last you’ll ever load are plates,” and that’s pretty accurate.

NOTICABLE HARDNESS - September 28, 2006
Reviewer: NACMEM from NAVAJO NATION, AZ

I noticed hardness in my muscles the first week, also I gain in strength about 10 lbs. per. week til I peaked, I personally recomend this product, you don’t have to go to a gym all you need is dedication and a 110lbs. of free weights from Wal-mart, or a bowflex.

Good - October 12, 2006
Reviewer: SJ from Queens

Cell-mass .. Cell-mass was a good product for me. Having a body that is rather unaffected by most supplements, I still saw results from Cell-mass. I gained about 8-9 lbs after about 2 weeks from using this. As with all creatine products this weight is primarily water retention. I combined cell-mass with NO-xplode and was very happy. The combination of swelling pumps and noticeable size difference was awesome.. try it out

It’s a step forward - January 26, 2006

Magic pills don’t exist. If your stuck on the same weight for a while, or only able to move up once in a blue moon. You’ll feel the same. But the weights do move up. That speaks for it self. It’s a great plateau breaker. You will have stomach crap for the first week though, you’ll be fine after the 7th day.

Average Creatine - May 09, 2006
Reviewer:

I’ve taken this stuff for 6 weeks and noticed the “promised” results (190-210, not bad). However, in comparison with several other creatine products I have taken in the past, I would have to recommend the creatine brand from twinlabs (creatine nitrate fuel). Cellmass was a lot pricier, and even pairing it with nitric oxide wasn’t as effective as the twinlabs supplement I took at first (30 lbs)for about the same time.

Didn’t Work For Me - September 02, 2005
Reviewer: Randy from Park Ridge

I have never before taken any type of creatine. CellMass was my one and only supplement. At the gym I noticed beeter pump and size. This product is expensive and therefore I was expecting better results that what I got. I did get some good gains I just didn’t find it satisfying to me for the amount of money I spent. As soon as I stopped taking it, I noticed that my mass gains were slowly disappearing. It wasn’t a lot. I don’t want to give the impression that it was all lost. Only a small amount, noticeable enough, was lost. Both me and a friend followed the same workout routine during the time we were taking this product. My friend had better results and says he definitely felt the difference. I guess this product just doesn’t work for me.

Junk - November 27, 2006
Reviewer: Joey from Phila

I am 6′4 210 7% body fat and I lift 5 days a week. In the past couple years I have gained about 23 pounds. Well since its winter time I wanted to add maybe 10 more pounds and I have used everything from Size On, NO2 CE2, and just regular cycles with creatine monohydrate in the past. So open to new products I decided to give Cell Mass a shot. Unfortunetly, it did nothing. And I have always been a good responder to all types of Creatines. Luckily the place where I bought it from refunded my money after I reported no size or muscular gains in about month. I dont know what happend I followed the instructions as I always have and it just didnt work. Atleast it tasted good though.

I took this product alittle while and with the BSN creatine. I didn’t notice a huge difference at first, but after taking it for a couple weeks I noticed difference. I’ve taken other nitric oxide products and have broken out but I really didn’t with this one. I haven’t taken it for about 2 months so I going to start using it again and stack it with the NO-Xplode. If your looking to not pay alot [] has a deal where you can get the BSN creatine and both nitrix and no-xplode for $100.

Another BSN product tops the tables

22 Mar 2007 - James of England, UK writes:

BSN Nitrix, was the first ever supplement I used apart from whey protein and creatine. I suppose, the first NO product I used. The pumps in and out of the gym were dramatic, aswell as sore, I had never experienced anything like it! I have a major problem with this product though, at $70 for a 360 tablet tub, it’s real expensive. It’s worth it, if you have the money, but if not, invest in some AAKG powder, it’s $20 a kg, but is only half as good. Nitrix, a 7/10 for the fact it is sooo good, but not available to the student who trains hard. knock it down 30bucks and it will sell like hot cakes.

Ok first off ill state that i dont have an acne problem but get the ocassional spot now and again. I started stacking these NITRIX tabs with my current NO-EXPLODE two days ago. I’ve been taking N.O. explode for about 2-3months now and i believe that is doing the job, but since ive started on NITRIX ive gotten several spots on my lower face and 2 on my chest (gross i know). I was wondering if this was down to the product since they appeared at the same time i started the product. I’ve come off them for now and spots seems to be going down, ill start them once their clear but is this a side affect of taking them??

Benchmark Product

1 Dec 2006 - Joe of Florida, USA writes:

1st and foremost, after spending the last three years getting into serious lifting as well as studying the science behind supplement products, I conclude that some of this stuff works for some not for others. I place BSN as the benchmark for products I use. NO Xplode, Nitrix, Cellmass, etc. have given me great results (I’ve used them for 4 cycles). Nitrix works great if you follow the hydration and meal instructions. It takes a few weeks for very noticable results, so be patient. You must also not consume more than 10g of glutamine per day, so no more than 2-3 scoops of protein, so get that from food. In three years, I’ve gained 80 lbs lean mass, doubled my bench to twice my weight, and can squat nearly 500lbs. And I’m no physical monster; I’m in the military, have 9% body fat, and run a 33 minute 5 mile. Nitrix did it’s job for me.
